Still Rockin' My Old-School Fuji X-Pro1 in 2025

March 28th, 2025

Still Rockin

My trusty Fujifilm X-Pro1? Yeah, I'm still using it, and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. There's just something about this camera – the way it feels, the images it makes – that newer cameras often miss (I have the X-e2, e3, and X-T5) It lets me focus on actually taking photos instead of getting lost in a million settings. I will be of to Turkiye fr six weeks in a few days and for pleasure I will be packing the X-Pro1.

Sure, you could argue that the latest models are packed with more tech, but the X-Pro1 has a special place in my heart (and my camera bag). Its classic looks and old-school controls just click with my style, making every shot a fun experience. Plus, I can throw on all sorts of lenses, old and new, and it still delivers that vibe I love. ( Iahve a lot of old lenses and a lot of old film cameras).Using an older camera isn't always a walk in the park, but my X-Pro1 has proven it's still a reliable and enjoyable tool, even in 2025. It's not just about the specs on paper; it's the connection I have with this thing that keeps inspiring me. Besides many of us were delighted to have such a great camera in our hands just a short while ago.

That First-Gen Fuji Sensor Magic...

I really appreciate the unique flavor of the original Fuji sensor in the X-Pro1. It gives images a distinct look that you don't always see with other cameras. That 16MP sensor delivers these rich colors and a lovely, almost film-like texture. My photos often have this depth and warmth that feels really authentic. It even surprises me in low light – it handles it way better than you'd expect for an older camera, with minimal noise. The dynamic range is also pretty impressive. I can usually pull details out of both bright and dark areas, which is great for my style of shooting. And the colors? They're vibrant without being over the top. I find them perfect for everything from portraits to landscapes. But I usually set the camera up for black and white shooting and keep it there. For me, it's not just about the technical stuff; it's the artistic feel this sensor brings to my photography. I genuinely love the timeless look it gives my images.

The Downsides of Going Old School.....

Let's be real, using an older camera like the X-Pro1 does come with a few bumps in the road. While I love its quirks, some things can be a bit frustrating.

- Slow Autofocus: The autofocus isn't as snappy as on newer cameras. Sometimes I miss shots because it struggles to lock on, especially in low light or with moving subjects.
- Missing Modern Goodies: I do sometimes wish I had in-body image stabilization. It would definitely make handheld shooting easier in tricky situations.
- Battery Life: The battery life isn't amazing compared to more recent models. I always carry extra batteries, especially for longer shoots.

But nothing in life is perfect and Im looking forward to a few warm days with my old friend and maybe some images for my portfolio. Wish me luck!
